Tracy Kraft-Tharp, candidate for Jefferson County Commissioner District 1

There are three values I hold that describe who I am and differentiate me from my opponents: I’m accessible through town meetings, newsletters, community meetings, social media. 2). I work to bring people together by finding common ground and 3) I get things done, I don’t talk talk talk.

If elected, what would your top issue be?

The trifecta of priorities is COVID 19, economic recovery and racial equity.

If elected, what would you want to accomplish in order for you to consider the term a success?

People feel heard.

Even before COVID-19 the county looked to be in a rough financial position. What is one county expense you think could be cut, and why?

As County Commissioner, it would be important that I spend time with the Budget Team. At this point I would want to examine administrative overhead items such as office remodels and car allowances. In addition, I would want to examine opportunities to centralize and reduce duplication in areas such as IT, Human Resources and county auto maintenance.

Would you support trying to bring more revenue into the county, through a new tax or another attempt at TABOR relief?

The ballot initiative brought to the people was to “debruce.” I would encourage long term community conversations about “debrucing”: what is it, how does it effect people to debruce, and what are other budget options.
