Beaver Ranch Park will get a huge facelift.

The trail system in the 450-acre park on Foxton Road in Conifer will go from 3.2 to 7.4 miles this year, and next year, the trailhead and amenities will be reconfigured.

The trails, according to Jeffco Open Space Planner Elizabeth O’Brien, will be more family friendly and easier to maintain, plus they will be long enough to allow hikers to traverse most of the park. Much of the work will be done by Open Space’s trails crew, but there might be volunteer opportunities.

The new trailhead will provide better links to the park’s amenities such as the disc golf course, zip line and the dog park, so people won’t have to drive vehicles through the entire park, O’Brien said.

“The biggest goal it to try to consolidate the different features,” O’Brien explained, “so the trailhead will be more like traditional open space parks. We are focusing on the visitor experience as well as the function of that space. It’s so exciting to get this work done.”

The changes follow the park’s master plan that was created in 2017. Work will also include habitat restoration and weed eradication.

Last year, some cabins were demolished so the park could focus on campsites, and signage throughout the park was improved, O’Brien said. Open Space officials also have made it a priority to work collaboratively with Beaver Ranch Community Inc., which maintains the park.

Beaver Ranch has a 5,400-square-foot main lodge, 1,700-square-foot tipi lodge, an outdoor wedding chapel, disc golf, six zip lines, a one-acre dog park and campsites. Jeffco Open Space purchased the park in 2001.
