Steady snow closes Jefferson County Schools, area roads

All Jefferson County Public Schools closed Feb. 7, due to a winter storm which is continuing to add inches of snow accumulation across much of the county. 

Icy road conditions also resulted in many areas of the county to be placed under accident alert. I-70 has been closed between Golden and the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Steady snow closes Jefferson County Schools, area roads

All Jefferson County Public Schools closed today, Feb. 7, due to a winter storm which is continuing to add inches of snow accumulation across much of the county. 

All school district buildings are closed today. All childcare programs and aftger-school activities are likewise cancelled. 

Many Jefferson County municipalities, including Lakewood, Wheat Ridge and Lakeside were placed on accident alert during the morning commute.

State Highway 93, just north of 64th Avenue was closed for a short time this morning, following a multi-vehicle crash. Shortly before 10 a.m. CDOT announced the closure of I-70, from Golden to the Eisenhower Tunnels.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the Denver metro area, through the evening of Feb. 7, forecasting a continued snowfall of 2 inches per hour in many locations. 

The high country remains under a Winter Storm Warning, with up to an additional 18 inches of percipitation and blowing snow possible.

The Action Center in Lakewood has also closed for the day due to road conditions. It will repoen for regular hours on Monday, Feb. 8.

The Colorado School of Mines will close its campus at 1 p.m. today.
