AURORA -- Both of Evergreen High School's basketball teams received berths in the state 4A tournaments.
The boys team hosts Mountain View in the opening round of the state 4A basketball tournament. Tip time is 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. The winner gets either Pueblo Central or Severance in the second round Thursday, March 11.
The Cougars finished the regular season with an 11-3 mark. Griffin Lauritano leads the squad in scoring at 16 points per game. Jackson Mott averages almost 14 ppg. The Lions won nine of 14 this season. Alex Hurr scores 24 points per contest for MVHS. Christian Soliz checks in at just a bit less than 10 points per game.
The girls team visits Thompson Valley at 5 p.m. March 9. The winner there gets either Green Mountain or Battle Mountain in the March 11 second round.
EHS was 10-4 this season. Jameson Mott averages more than 14 points per outing for the Cougars. She and Catherine Beccaccio average about four rebounds per outing. The Eagles were 11-3 during the regular season. Amelia Soit averages 21 pints a game for TVHS.
The final four is Tuesday, March 16. The finals are set for Friday, March 19, at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs.
