Heavy snow prompts school closures around Denver metro area

A winter storm that brought heavy snow the night of Feb. 24 made for a treacherous morning commute the next day, prompting school closures throughout the Denver metro area.

The Douglas County School District, Littleton Public Schools and Adams 12 Five Star announced on Twitter that no in-person or remote classes would be held Feb. 25. The Cherry Creek School District said its campuses are closed but the district would operate its Cherry Creek Elevation and K-5 online programs on a normal schedule.

Denver Public Schools and Jefferson County Public Schools announced they would have an all-remote learning day for all students.

Snowfall reports varied throughout the metro area, with 12.8 inches reported in Highlands Ranch, 7.5 inches in Englewood, 10.8 inches in Thornton and 8.3 inches in Golden, according to the National Weather Service.

As of the morning of Feb. 25, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office remained on accident alert.
