About me

I was born in Sterling, but I moved to Wheat Ridge when I was 13 and decided to stay here. I love planting my garden where I grow flowers and vegetables. I have three grand kids and I love spending time with them. I also love to read books on politics.

I started a house cleaning company 41 years ago, and it’s still running. I’ve volunteered at schools in the community and have always been very active. I loved fighting for different issues. That led to me spending two four-year terms on the Colorado House of Representatives, starting in 2001. I served on numerous committees and also as speaker pro tem for four years.

I also represented the 20th District on the Colorado State Senate where I served through 2018. That area primarily covers Wheat Ridge. I was amazed by topics that go through the health department. Everything from some land use to the health issues like the opioid epidemic and substance abuse disorder stuff.

On serving the people

It was a privilege that no one should ever take for granted to get elected and reelected. The thing I loved the most was the connection it gave me to the people that lived in my district. They would call to talk about issues, and my favorite part of the job was fixing those issues.

Another great thing about representing the 20th District was gaining this incredible amount of knowledge on all the different issues. You go in with very limited knowledge on so many things, and of course you hear issues. The education part was incredible.

When I saw there was an opening on the Jeffco Board of Health, I thought why not? The worst thing that could’ve happened was not getting chosen. I believe my time working on issues that went before the local health department will help me as a member of the Jeffco Board of Health.
