Jefferson County high schools were honored at the 8th Annual Bobby G Awards, a celebration of Colorado high school musical theater productions organized by the Denver Center for Performing Arts. 41 productions across 18 counties were evaluated, with 29 schools receiving nominations.

Arvada West High School and Faith Christian Academy took home honors for Outstanding Performance by a Chorus and Outstanding Achievement in Hair and Make-Up Design, respectively. Arvada West’s production of “The Addams Family” and FCA’s Kaylie Bookout, Josie Lessig and Jessica Nelson were honored for the school’s production of “The Little Mermaid.”

Lakewood High School received three nominations for its production of “Anastasia,” with Noah Schuster’s performance as Dimitry nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Morgan Fritzler’s performance as the titular Anastasia nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role and the show receiving a nomination for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical.

Ralston Valley High School’s production of “Newsies” scored nominations for Miguel Castillo’s performance as Jack Kelly in the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Maya Thomas’ portrayal of Les in the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Overall, over 3,500 students were evaluated, with 522 participating in workshops held by DCPA Teaching Artists. The Bobby G Awards returned this year after going virtual in 2020 and being cancelled last year. This year’s ceremony was held on May 26 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
